If you’re like me and you love NASCAR racing and you also love watching the ARCA Racing Series to see those young up and coming drivers who are striving for NASCAR stardom you may now be able to see the action on TV.
The last few years ARCA racing fans have only been able to see select marquee races on Fox Sports 1 and some on Fox Sports 2. The other races have either not been televised or available online only. Needless to say if you were an ARCA fan if you were not at the track you were left out. That will be changing with this week’s race from Toledo Speedway.
The Menards 200 from Toledo Speedway is the Launch of American Sports Network Coverage of ARCA Racing. The live telecast will be available to more than 40 Million US homes, and will also be streamed on-line at the ASN website, AmericanSportsNet.com.
Click on the ARCA Racing Series Menards 200 in the schedule, insert your zip code under “Find your station,” and submit. The available channels will appear in the box to the right of the submit button. Fans can also access the “channel finder” at arcaracing.com, by clicking on the “Menards 200 from Toledo ASN Broadcast Information” in the right hand column on the homepage, including a complete list of affiliates carrying the Menards 200.
Sounds simple enough but let me give you some tips. These tips may or may not apply to you and your TV viewing situation but they will give you a start of where to look. In my market, Chicago, the Schedule indicates that the race will be on WPVN-2 (Tuff TV) and CSN Chicago Plus. I hope for me this is a good sign.
First and foremost, WPVN-2 (Tuff TV) is an alternate over the air (Antenna) channel. In order to get this channel or possibly know you even have it; you will probably need to rescan your over the air (Antenna) channels and look for it. You may even need to add it to your preferred channel list so you can find it on race day.
Second, I don’t really know what CSN Chicago Plus is but I know what CSN is. It is Comcast Sports Net. If you’re a sports fan and you have this you know that CSN is actually a family of channels; the flagship CSN and as much as ten or more CSN alternate channels. On my guide the Menards 200 is on one of these alternate channels. The bottom line is, just like the over the air station you will have to fish for this.
If all else fails you can watch the online via ASN’s web page or via the live timing and scoring page at ARCARacing.com.
“This is an exciting time for ARCA,” said Mark Gundrum, ARCA Vice President for Business Development and Corporate Partnerships. “The ability to provide additional exposure of the ARCA Racing Series on American Sports Network, on multiple platforms is a great opportunity for the teams, sponsors and fans of the series. While the network grows, and more and more affiliates pick up the ARCA Racing series telecasts, ASN will also offer the programs on-line at AmercanSportsNet.com.”
ASN is scheduled to air five ARCA Racing Series events live, beginning with the May 22 Menards 200 from Toledo (Ohio) Speedway. ASN will also televise live races from Madison (Wis.) International Speedway June 19; Winchester (Ind.) Speedway Sunday June 26; Berlin Raceway (just west of Grand Rapids, Mich.) August 6; and the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield August 21.
It is so cool to be able to see some of these ARCA races that one could only see in person. The ARCA Racing Series Menards 200 from Toledo Speedway is Sunday afternoon, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
